|
The 90th Swiss Cup was held from August 23, 2014 to June 7, 2015. The defending champion was FC Zurich , which failed in the semi-finals at FC Sion . The winner of the Swiss Cup qualifies for the group stage of the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League .
mode
Nine clubs from the Super League and all ten teams from the Challenge League were directly qualified for the Swiss Cup. In addition, 22 clubs from the first division (9 clubs from the Promotion League and 13 clubs from the 1st league ), 9 clubs from the 2nd interregional league and 14 clubs from the amateur leagues qualified in pre-qualifications and regional eliminations.
Although FC Vaduz plays in the Raiffeisen Super League, it takes part in the Liechtenstein Cup and is therefore not eligible to play in the Swiss Cup. In addition, the U-21 teams from the Promotion League are not eligible to play, as are all other reserve teams. If a reserve team has won a regional elimination, the first team will be awarded the starting place in the Swiss Cup, unless the first team is already qualified for the competition. Then the finalist of the regional competition will be given the starting place.
The Swiss Cup will be played in the knockout system . As a rule, each round is played within two days.
- 1st round (23 & 24 August 2014): 64 teams, the winners are qualified for the 1/16 finals.
- 2nd round (September 19-21, 2014): 32 teams, the winners are qualified for the round of 16.

Tournament course
In the first round , three top division teams had a hard time against their lower class opponents, but all of them survived the first round. The record cup winners BSC Young Boys narrowly beat fourth division club FC Bavois with a goal in stoppage time in the second half. After a 0-1 deficit in the first half, FC Sion was able to prevail 3-1 against the fifth division club FC La Chaux-de-Fonds. FC Thun had the hardest fight against third division club FC Breitenrain, which was 2-1 behind after a goalless first half until shortly before the end of the game and was only able to make it into the second round with two goals in stoppage time. In addition to all the first division teams, all second division teams were able to qualify for the second round, unlike in the previous year.
In the second round , the fifth-rate SC Buochs caused the biggest surprise. After a first round, which had not been outstanding, the BSC Young Boys had to admit defeat 0: 1 against SC Buochs. The defending champion struggled against fourth-rate FC Black Stars and even had to go into extra time after a 1-1 draw after the first half and after 90 minutes, where they still managed to score one goal. In addition to the Young Boys Bern, seven second division clubs also had to give up their sails.
In the second round , SC Buochs once again attracted attention and beat fourth-rate FC Schötz 2-0. Thus, the Nidwalden moved into the quarter-finals as the only amateur team. With the fourth-class FC Münsingen, another lower-class team qualified for the quarter-finals, thanks to a 3-2 victory over FC Wil.
In the quarter-finals , the reigning Swiss champions FC Basel defeated the fourth-class FC Münsingen 6-1 away. FC Zurich won the Zurich derby against the Grasshopper Club and won 1-0 in extra time. FC Sions beat FC Aarau 2-1 at home and FC St. Gallen eliminated SC Buochs' surprise team 5-0 away.
The semi-finals were the final destination for the defending champions, FC Zurich. Starting at home against FC Sion, they lost just 0: 1, which meant that the Valais could qualify for the 13th Cup final in their club history. In the second duel, FC Basel prevailed against FC St. Gallen 3-1 away and thus celebrated the fourth finals in a row.
1 round
In the first round, the teams from the Super League and the Challenge League could not meet. The team from the lower league always got the home advantage, otherwise the team drawn first got the home right.
