Mërgim Brahimi (born August 8, 1992 in Istog , BR Yugoslavia , today Kosovo ) is a Kosovar-Albanian-Swiss football player. He currently plays for FC Wil and the Kosovar national football team .

life and career

Brahimi was born as a Kosovar Albanian in Istog and moved to Zurich , Switzerland at the age of two . His first youth club was FC Red Star Zurich , for which he played from 1997 to 2007. Then he switched to the Grasshoppers. From 2010 he was active in the club's second team and was allowed to play in the first team a year later. Here he won the Swiss Cup in 2013 . In the following, however, he was no longer used for the Grasshoppers, but was awarded to first division club FC Aarau and second division club FC Wohlen , who bought him in 2014. After a season, however, he moved back to the Grasshoppers. Then in 2018 he went to Panionios Athens and currently he plays for FC Wil .

Brahimi's first national team was the Albanian U-21s , who scored one goal in ten games. He then made his debut for the senior team on May 27, 2012 against Iran . This was followed by three goals in 11 games for the Swiss U-21s before he made his debut on October 10, 2015 against Equatorial Guinea for the new national team of Kosovo, which only got FIFA's approval for official matches against FIFA members after its international match for Albania deny. So he was allowed to change his national team again. He also scored one goal on his debut. Brahimi also played against Albania and also for Kosovo in the following game when they played their first game after joining FIFA against the Faroe Islands .
