Swiss Cup 2014/15

The 91st Swiss Cup won by FC Zurich was played in the 2015/16 football season. The defending champion was FC Sion , who failed in the semi-finals at FC Zurich.

mode

The winner of the Swiss Cup was known after six rounds (1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 finals, final).

Nine clubs from the Super League and all ten teams from the Challenge League were directly qualified for the Swiss Cup. In addition, 21 clubs from the first league (9 clubs from the Promotion League and 12 clubs from the 1st league ), 11 clubs from the 2nd league interregionally and 13 clubs from the amateur leagues have qualified in pre-qualifications and regional eliminations.

Although FC Vaduz plays in the Raiffeisen Super League, it takes part in the Liechtenstein Cup and is therefore not eligible to play in the Swiss Cup. In addition, the U-21 teams from the Promotion League are not eligible to play, as are all other reserve teams. If a reserve team has won a regional elimination, the first team will be awarded the starting place in the Swiss Cup, unless the first team is already qualified for the competition. Then the final opponent of the regional elimination receives the starting place.

The Swiss Cup will be played in the knockout system . As a rule, each round is played within two days.

  • 1st round (August 15 & 16, 2015): 64 teams, the winners are qualified for the 1/16 finals.
  • 2nd round (September 18-20, 2015): 32 teams, the winners qualify for the round of 16.
  • Round of 16 (October 28 & 29, 2015): 16 teams, the winners qualify for the quarter-finals.
  • Quarter-finals (December 12th & 13th, 2015): 8 teams, the winners are qualified for the semi-finals.
  • Semi-finals (March 2nd, 2016): 4 teams, the winners qualify for the final.
  • Final in the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich (May 29, 2016): The winner wins the 91st Swiss Cup.

The cup winner received the right to start in the group stage of the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League . If the cup winner had already qualified for the UEFA Champions League or its qualifying rounds via the Super League , the third in the Super League final table would have moved from the qualification to the group phase and the fifth would have been given the free place in the qualification as an additional participant.
