Ulrich Massimo "Uli" Forte (born April 30, 1974 in Zurich ) is an Italian football coach and former football player from Switzerland.

Forte is the son of Italian parents and was born second in Switzerland. He completed his school and university days in the canton of Zurich . After finishing high school in Winterthur, he studied finance at the University of Zurich .

player

He started as a footballer at FC Brüttisellen and went through all junior levels. It was later followed by individual missions in what was then the National League B team. From summer 1994 he played for FC Red Star Zurich . In the summer of 1999 he moved back to the National League B for SC Kriens , where he spent three years.

Trainer

In spring 2002 he started his coaching career. He was (player-coach) at FC Red Star Zurich in the 2nd Interregional League, which he led back to the 1st League after a year and narrowly failed with the team in the promotion rounds to the Challenge League in the following years .

In summer 2006 he received an offer from FC Wil 1900 to join professional football as a coach. He accepted and surprisingly reached the semifinals of the Swisscom Cup with the team in the first season . This is one of the reasons why he was later named “Swisscom Cup Team of the Year 2007” on the night of Swiss football in Bern. In the second season he reached the third place with FC Wil 1900, which means two points were missing for direct promotion and one point for barring in the Axpo Super League.

From the 08/09 season he was on the sidelines at FC St. Gallen and led the "Espen" back into the Axpo Super League in the same year . The contract was extended early in December 2009 to the 2011/12 season. After the 0-1 home defeat against Thun on February 27, 2011, Uli Forte was given a leave of absence as coach of FC St. Gallen on March 1, 2011 after exactly 1,000 days in office with immediate effect.

On April 16, 2012, the Grasshopper Club Zurich announced that it would replace the previously resigned coach Ciriaco Sforza . He celebrated the cup victory and the 2nd place in the league in his 1st season. On June 1, 2013 it was announced that Forte would take over the BSC Young Boys after the end of the 2012/2013 season . On August 6, 2015, he was released there after three draws at the start of the championship and the failure to qualify for the Champions League against AS Monaco after three championship rounds.

Since May 13, 2016, he has coached FC Zurich for the last three championship games of the season. Although the last championship game was won by the team, this was no longer enough to prevent relegation. In the following season, Forte was promoted back to the Raiffeisen Super League with FCZ. On February 20, 2018, the FCZ separated from Forte.

On April 9, 2019, Grasshopper Club Zurich, at the time bottom of the table in the Super League, again signed Forte as coach. However, Forte did not succeed in preventing relegation to the Challenge League. However, he remained in office and was entrusted with the task of striving for immediate resurgence. After a less successful start to the second half of the season, Forte was dismissed as coach on February 8, 2020.
