Oliver Buff (born August 3, 1992 in Baden ) is a Swiss football player . He has played as a midfielder for Grasshopper Club Zurich since 2019 .

Career

society

As a junior, Oliver Buff first played at FC Schlieren and then at FC Oetwil-Geroldswil. In 2005, after a trial session, he was invited to a training camp by FC Zurich and then accepted into the junior team. Oliver Buff made his debut in the Axpo Super League on March 21, 2010 at Letzigrund in Zurich against AC Bellinzona . FC Zurich won the game 2-0. Oliver Buff scored his first goal in his third appearance on the occasion of the derby in the city of Zurich against the Grasshopper Club Zurich on April 5, 2010, which was won 3-2. As a result, the club signed a contract until 2013. In the 2010/11 season Buff was Swiss runner-up.

On May 13, 2010 he took part in the 72nd Blue Stars / FIFA Youth Cup with the U-21 team of the FCZ and finished 2nd with the U-21 team. He was also named the tournament's best player.

On April 21, 2014, Buff and FC Zurich won the Swiss Football Cup against FC Basel 2-0. In a subsequent interview with the Aargauer Zeitung , he rates winning the cup higher than the U-17 World Cup title from 2009. In 2016, he won the Swiss Cup 2015/16 with FCZ . In the 2017/18 season, Oliver Buff moved to the Spanish second division Real Saragossa. He made his debut on the first day of play against CD Tenerife on August 18th. Buff scored the opening goal in the 2-1 defeat by CD Lugo on September 15. It was the first goal for his new club. On October 15, 2019, Oliver Buff is signed by Grasshoppers Zurich after being out of a club for a long time.

National team

Buff played for the U-15, up to the U-21 selection of Switzerland. He played his first game in the national team jersey as a central defender on April 20, 2007 in the Swiss U-15 national team against Germany (1: 4). This was also the first game of the Swiss U-15s since May 23, 2001 against the Czech Republic (2-2).

He celebrated his greatest success so far with the Swiss U-17 national team by winning the U-17 World Cup in Nigeria in 2009 . He was used in six out of seven games. In the quarter-finals against Italy, he scored his only goal in the tournament. He scored in the 62nd minute to make it 2-1.

On August 10, 2011, he made his debut in the Swiss U-21 national team against Italy . He played through the first half. For the second 45 minutes he was substituted for Nzuzi Toko . In 2012 he was part of the squad of the football game that took part in the Olympic Games.
