The FC Muri is a Swiss football club from Muri . The first men's team of the club, founded in 1950, played from 1985 to 1990 and 1992 to 1999 in the first division , the third-highest division. FC Muri has around 400 active players in 26 teams, including a junior division with 19 teams and over 30 coaches.

founding

FC Muri was founded in 1950 thanks to a donation from the metal construction company Wild. 58 active and 3 passive members registered at the founding meeting. The inauguration took place around 20 weeks later. Then the prelude between FC Muri and the Young Fellows Seniors (footballers from 32 years of age) began in front of the fully occupied Otto Wild Foundation wooden grandstand .

1950-1989

In the following years the first team rose from the 5th to the 2nd division. In 1985 she rose to the first division. There she stayed until 1990. The second team rose to the second division, but when the first team was relegated , they had to be relegated . Until the end of the 70s, children were only able to play football at FC Muri from the C-junior age, i.e. from 13 years of age.

New stadium in Brühl

At the end of 1986 there was a vote as to whether the municipality would pay the amount of 2.95 million Swiss francs to enable the construction of the three new playing fields. It was clearly adopted with 258 votes in favor to 25 against.

FC Muri had to pay for the costs of 450,000 francs for the new grandstand with 350 seats. Supported by the Murian construction company Pius Weiss + CO, the members of FC Muri worked over 1000 hours for the club in their free time. The association managed to stay debt-free through fundraising campaigns. In 1989 the new sports facility in Brühl was opened. At the opening ceremony, GC played against Admira Wacker in front of 1,800 spectators.

1989-2011

In 1992 Muri rose again to the first division, where they stayed for 7 seasons. In 1992 FC Muri founded a women's team. In 2008 there were four of them. For the next season, the 2nd Interregional League was put into operation, a league between the 1st and 2nd league, in which FC Muri then rose. From the 2nd Interregional league, Muri was relegated again in 2001 to be promoted again. In 2008 they were relegated back to the 2nd division.

Since the 2011/2012 season, FC Muri has been back in the top amateur league (1st division, Group 3). In a brilliant season finale against FC Sursee in front of 1,400 spectators at the Brühl stadium, the promotion became a fact. The final score of 1-1 should be enough.

Major sporting events

Major sporting events were also held in the Brühl sports complex without Murians participating. In 1991, 1. FC Köln and FC Zurich played a preparatory game in front of a record crowd of 3300 spectators (final score 0: 2). On October 24, 1993, the Swiss national football team met the German national team in this stadium as part of the European Championship qualification. In front of 2050 spectators, the Swiss lost 5-0 to the eventual European champions.
