Germano Vailati (born August 30, 1980 in Lugano ) is a former Swiss football goalkeeper . He was most recently under contract with FC Basel in the Swiss Super League from 2012 to 2018 .

Ticino, Sion, Metz

Vailati played for various Ticino clubs before his breakthrough at FC Sion . With this he won the Swiss Cup in 2006 . In 2008 and 2009 he was under contract for a few months with the Lorraine club FC Metz , a club that played in the second highest division of France ( Ligue 2 ) at the time. It was used 18 times in Metz.

FC St. Gallen

From 2010 to 2012 he played for the Swiss Super League club FC St. Gallen and was in the starting line-up 40 times in the two seasons.

FC Basel

At FC Basel he was number two in the team hierarchy behind Tomáš Vaclík (formerly Yann Sommer ) and was mainly used in cup games ( Swiss Cup ).

Under coach Urs Fischer , Vailati won the championship title with FCB at the end of the 2015/16 championship and the 2016/17 championship . For the club it was the 8th title in a row and the 20th title in the club's history. They also won the cup competition on May 25, 2017 with three to zero against Sion and thus the double .

In October 2007 Vailati was called up for the Swiss national football team, but was not used.

Life after football

In 2017 Vailati, a passionate fisherman, opened a travel agency for fishing trips under the name fishbreak together with the former ice hockey professional Claudio Moggi .
