Sereso Geoffroy Gonzaroua Dié , Serey Dié for short (born November 7, 1984 in Facobly ) is an Ivorian football player who has been under contract with Neuchâtel Xamax since January 2019 . He is mainly used in defensive midfield .

Club career

Ivory Coast

Dié received his training as a footballer at the national center, Center national des sports de haut niveau, in the Ivory Coast. In 2001 he began his professional career in the Ivory Coast Super Division 3 at the Cocody- based football academy Volcan Junior . A year later he was hired by the Super Ligue 2 club Club Omnisports de Korhogo and developed into one of the top performers there. In 2003 he moved to the Superdivision club Stade d'Abidjan .

Tunisia and Algeria

In the summer of 2006, Dié continued his career at the Tunisian football club Étoile Olympique La Goulette Kram . In the 2007/08 season he moved to the Algerian first division club ES Setif , with whom he won the Arab Champions League .

FC Sion

In 2008 Dié signed a contract with the Valais club FC Sion in Switzerland . In Sion he was used as a midfielder and won the Swiss Cup twice . In March 2010, Dié faced the accusation that he had deliberately provoked a red card , against which he defended himself. The Federal Prosecutor's Office did not see any connection with betting manipulation and therefore did not open any proceedings. In 2012, Dié was suspended for eight games for a committed assault: After losing to FC Lausanne on May 2, 2012 , which resulted in relegation for Sion , he slapped a 13-year-old ball boy.

FC Basel

In December 2012 Dié signed a three-year contract with the Swiss champions FC Basel, valid from January 2013 . At the end of the 2012/13 season , he became Swiss champions with his new club, made it to the Swiss Cup final and advanced to the semi-finals of the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League .

The season 2013/14 ended FC Basel for the 17th time as a champion (for the fifth time in a row) and was repeated in the final of the Swiss Cup , which was but lost after extra time. In the Europa League , FC Basel reached the quarter-finals. Under coach Murat Yakin Dié had 38 appearances, 22 of them in the Super League.

In the first half of the 2014/15 season under the new coach Paulo Sousa , Dié was not part of the regular formation and only played 13 games, seven of them in the Super League.

VfB Stuttgart

On February 2, 2015, Dié moved to VfB Stuttgart . He made his Bundesliga debut on February 14, 2015 (21st matchday) in the 1: 2 defeat in the away game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim with a substitution for Martin Harnik in the 87th minute. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on February 13, 2016 (21st matchday) in a 2-0 home win against Hertha BSC with the goal to make it 1-0 in the 51st minute.

Return to FC Basel

On July 15, 2016, Serey Dié returned to FC Basel . Under coach Urs Fischer , he won the championship title for the fourth time with FCB at the end of the 2016/17 championship . For the club it was the 8th title in a row and the 20th title in the club's history. They also won the cup competition on May 25, 2017 with three to zero against Sion and thus the double .

National team

Dié plays for the Ivorian national team . He made his debut on March 23, 2013 in the 3-0 victory in the World Cup qualifier against Gambia at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan . On November 16, 2013, he and his team qualified for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in the game against Senegal . He was in the starting line-up in all three Group C games of the World Cup. At the African Cup of Nations 2015 , he was the African champion with the national team and converted a penalty in the penalty shoot-out in the final against the Ghanaian selection .

He scored his first national team goal on January 20, 2017 in a draw against the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the 2017 African Cup of Nations , when he equalized to 2-2.
