The SC Veltheim is a Swiss football club from the Winterthur district of Veltheim . The women's division plays in the second division, the male division in the third division.

history

In 1915 an FC Veltheim was founded for the first time . The club initially played in Serie C (third highest league) and a year later made it to Serie B. Also in 1915, the then FC Veltheim decided to merge with FC Winterthur to form the United FC Winterthur-Veltheim.

After this decision, 21 disappointed players founded the Veltheim sports club on August 29, 1915 in the former restaurant "zur Ralle", since the club would have made it to Serie A even without the merger. Eugen Weiler, his five brothers, was the first president later also brought to SC Veltheim, including Max and Walter Weiler . In 1916, the newly founded club joined the Swiss Football Association and was in the 1916/17 season in the Serie C Eastern Switzerland champions and rose to the NLB. After that, SC Veltheim played for a while in Serie B, with Veltheim just missing out on promotion in 1918 , after having eliminated two first division teams in the Och-Cup FC Nordstern Basel and local rivals Winterthur-Veltheim, they failed in the last final game 2nd team from Servette Geneva .

In the course of a league expansion in the 1923/24 season , Veltheim finally managed to move up to the top division under the Swiss national player Gustav Gottenkieny as a coach. In the first NLA season, Max Weiler, the only national player from Veltheim to date , was appointed to the Swiss national team. Weiler switched to GC the next season . Veltheim was able to hold on to the top division until 1927, after which it was relegated back to the second division. When it came to the league reform in 1930 (downsizing of the top leagues, which until now consisted of several groups), SC Veltheim said goodbye to the fourth-highest league in Switzerland and thus disappeared into the lowlands of the amateur league.

In 1935 a junior department was established. On July 7, 1973, the new Flüeli sports field was inaugurated with a UI Cup game by FC Winterthur, previously played on the Deutweg and in A-times also on the Schützenwiese. In 1974 the club caused a sensation with a narrow 0-1 defeat after extra time against FC St. Gallen in the 1/16 final of the Swiss Cup. In 1988 the club made it to the 1st league , the third highest league in Switzerland. There he was able to hold until 1993 and then rose again to the 2nd division. In 1998/99 they once again had a guest appearance in the first division for a year, but could not hold on there. In 2007 the Flüeli sports field got artificial turf.

Women's football

In 1974 the women's department finally joined SC Veltheim after guest appearances at FC Winterthur and FC Phönix Seen . As a subsection you have your own board of directors and are also responsible for finances. At the moment you play with the active team in the 2nd regional league, you have a junior B 9 team as well as C juniors 7, since the 02/03 season there are also senior women who train once a week and play friendly games. In the 40-year history of the club, the greatest sporting successes, in 1983 CH-Cup 1/4 final against DFC Bern, were eliminated 1: 2, like the 1st league CH championship in 1990. Six players had the honor of being called up for the national women's team.
