The FEDAC ( Fundación para la Etnografía y el Desarrollo de la Artesanía Canaria ) is a foundation of the Cabildo Insular de Gran Canaria based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria . The FEDAC database is comparable to a digital state archive .

description

Its goals are to document and protect the indigenous cultural elements, especially in the care and development of the handicrafts of Gran Canaria. The collection has been open to the public since 1992.

The state archive was set up as early as 1979 in order to secure the manufacturing techniques used by craftsmen and photographers on the island of Gran Canaria. The almost 100,000 photographs come in part from various funds and collections of the Archives of Historical Photography (Archivo de Fotografía Histórica).

This work was supplemented in 1982 by the Canarian Folklore Institute, the Department of Art of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Crafts and in 1987 by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and finally led to the founding of FEDAC in 1992.

As a result, the foundation now offers over 120,000 images and 1,000 hours of video in the audiovisual fund, which are subdivided into various collections, such as institutional registration, processes and types of handicrafts, furniture and traditional handicrafts, movable and immovable objects of ethnographic interest. Most of the documents are in the photography database.

Part of the FEDAC collection is in the Archivo de El Museo Canario .
