FIPS (The F irst nondestructive I nteractive P artition S plitting program) is a DOS program for data-sustaining reduction of FAT16 - and FAT32 - partition .

The program was one of the first free DOS programs with which you could shrink partitions without having to delete data. Until the development of GNU Parted it was one of the standard tools for Linux - Installation . It was included with every major Linux distribution , FreeBSD and OpenBSD .
