The word fabada can be roughly translated as “bean dish” and comes from the word faba , plural fabes , the Asturian name for “beans”.
In addition to the typical white beans, a fabada ( Fabada Asturiana ) usually contains pork from the belly or knuckle, paprika sausage ( chorizo ), black pudding ( morcilla ), onions and garlic . The beans have to simmer slowly for several hours before adding more ingredients to the soup. In Spain, however, they can also be found ready-made and canned in every supermarket .
