Facepunch Studios is a British development studio . The studio was founded in 2004 by Garry Newman. The studio became known through the computer games Garry's Mod and Rust .

Company history

The development studio originally had only four developers , Garry Newman, Matthew Schwenk, Bryn Shurman, and Arthur Lee, who worked on the video game Facewound in 2003 . After a long brainstorming session , the group decided on the name Facepunch , which ultimately resulted in two names: Facewound and Facepunch . They decided to call the game Facewound and themselves Facepunch because it "sounds too funny to just let the name die".

In 2004 Garry Newman started developing Garry's Mod , which was originally just a side project. In 2005 the development of Facewound was canceled and the studio was closed. In the meantime, Garry's Mod became more and more popular and Garry Newman re-founded the studio in 2009 with the money he got from the sales of Garry's Mod .

By early 2016, Garry's Mod had sold 10 million copies .

There are currently 31 developers working on the video game Rust .
