Academy for Education at the Christian Youth Services Kempten the school work of the Diocese of Augsburg is a private, state-approved, vocational training center for educators and teachers in Kempten (Allgäu) . The sponsor is the Schulwerk of the Diocese of Augsburg .

History and present

The training center was founded in 1956 with 8 young students as a seminar for kindergarten teachers and after-school care workers . The sister community of the love of Christ took over the sponsorship under the title Christian youth welfare Kempten . At the same time, the small religious community provided the teaching and management staff. In 1968 the seminar was converted into the technical school for social pedagogy . Associated with this was new school regulations and the introduction of a one-year internship.

Since the need for well-trained teachers for kindergartens, after-school care centers and homes was very great at the beginning of the 1970s, the Caritas Association and the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture encouraged the sister community to consider building a new school with the possibility of creating parallel classes pull. After lengthy negotiations with the city of Kempten, a piece of land in the immediate vicinity of the previous school building was acquired at the end of 1971 and construction began in 1972. During the planning, there was also the need for a teaching kindergarten as a practice site and a small dormitory for foreign students. In September 1974 the entire school complex (120 students), the kindergarten (50 children) and the dormitory (24 places) could be occupied.

In 1975 the religious order handed over the school, which had received the status of a technical academy two years earlier , to the sponsorship of the Schulwerk of the Diocese of Augsburg . 16 years later the sisters withdrew from teaching and management, the school management passed into secular (and male) hands. The boarding school was also closed due to low demand. Due to the increased demand for a school place as well as the extension of the training period, a spatial expansion was necessary. The extension was inaugurated in 1984.

The specialist academy is now run in two classes, with around 230 young women and a few men. If the prescribed admission requirements are met (see Specialized Academy for Social Education and), the denominational training center is open to all applicants regardless of their religious affiliation.
