Specialized office for public libraries
A conference of the library specialist units in Germany (formerly Center for public libraries and Center for Public Libraries , library office , Land library office , Biichereizentrale , Consulting Center , specialized state agency designated or similar) is a nonprofit institution with the task of consulting and services for public libraries and to provide their carrier. The administration is located in Wiesbaden .
The agencies are either the federal states or, on their behalf, municipal associations (responsible for the municipal city and community libraries) or the Protestant or Catholic Church (responsible for the church-run libraries).
The departments have different fields of activity in the individual federal states: for example, they advise on all questions relating to library work, offer training courses and seminars for library staff, organize events such as B. readings by authors , help libraries on site to build up their holdings , support their public relations work , maintain supplementary media pools and bring together the country-specific data from the German library statistics.
In some federal states, the specialist offices are also responsible for allocating funding.
The specialist agencies supported by the federal states or acting on their behalf are organized in the "Specialist Conference of Library Specialist Agencies in Germany" (abbreviated to "Specialist Agency Conference"). The specialist center conference is represented in library and library policy committees and advocates the interests of public libraries, including: a. as a cooperation partner of the " Competence Network for Libraries ".
With the “specialist agency server”, the specialist agency conference offers an information server with documents on issues relating to the work of public libraries and information on events. Here you can also find the addresses of all specialist agencies in Germany (with the exception of church-supported institutions).
