Flagsmith

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flags blacksmith was in the cavalry and in all mounted or hauled military units (. Eg artillery ) for centuries usual term for a skilled blacksmith , where the term comes from the fact that a flag marked the location of the forge and Ross physician.

Before the establishment of the veterinary schools and some time later, the flag smiths had to take care of the treatment of horse diseases in addition to the horse shoeing .

In Austria and Prussia this function was retained in isolated cases until the 20th century, when the smithy was then called "Kurschmied". On the other hand, the flag smiths named during this time were NCOs due to their military character and farriers according to their activity . According to seniority, they were promoted to sergeant second class.

The highest rank in Bavaria was called Oberfahnenschmied.

The training took place in Germany in militarily organized training forges , where the students were taught both theoretically about the construction, functioning and diseases of the hoof , as well as practically in the making and striking of horseshoes .
