The Bicycle Ordinance is an ordinance of the Austrian Minister of Transport , which came into force on May 1, 2001 and is a supplement to the Road Traffic Act and replaces the ordinance of the Federal Minister for Public Economy and Transport of April 24, 1986 on the technical characteristics of racing bicycles ( BGBl. No. 242/1986 ) defines which technical requirements are made of bicycles in order to move them in public transport.

Section 1 specifies the necessary equipment for the bike , such as bike lights , reflectors , braking devices and acoustic warning devices ( bike bell , horn ).

Section 2 defines the deviations from Section 1 for multi-lane bicycles.

Section 3 lays down additional provisions for pulling trailers.

Section 4 defines racing bikes and their exceptions from Section 1 .

Section 5 specifies the necessary equipment for bicycle trailers , the coupling and the transport of people with bicycle trailers.

Section 6 defines the conditions for taking children on child seats.

Section 7 defines the maximum permissible weight.
