Fairplay (games magazine)

The Fair Play is a quarterly mutual magazine for board games and card games . In addition to game reviews for newly released games, it contains trade fair reports, news for gamers and collectors, series, portraits, interviews and tips on well-known games. The hobby player trade journal has been published by Fairplay Verlag Bielefeld since 1987 .

Publishing history

The first edition was published in autumn 1987 by Fairplay Verlag, Bielefeld. The magazine price was DM 5, the publisher and editor-in-chief were Rolf Schulte and Herbert Heller, respectively. The founding editorial team consisted of Rolf Schulte, Herbert Heller, Andreas Mutschke, Ralf Kahlert, Thomas Hüsiggensen and Jutta Pfafferodt.

Since 2020 the editorial team has consisted of Rolf Schulte, Wolfgang Friebe, Kathrin Nos, Peter Nos, Astrid haben, Benjamin Bestier and Marcus Eibrink-Lunzenauer. Today's employees are Hendrik Breuer, Arne Claussen, LU Dikus, Jan Drewitz, Hendrik J. Ehlert, Arne Hoffmann, Lasse Goldschmidt, Peter Neugebauer, Kathrin Nos, Dieter Niehoff, Matthias Palmer and Franz-Josef Schulte.

Rubrics

The “à la carte” section has been available since the first issue. There are brief reviews of card games here. A permanent rubric in the fair play are the "AusSCHACHtungen". Here the editor LUDikus presents chess variants approximately every two editions.

In every issue there is the heading "Prize Riddles", in which Franjo Schulte describes and poses tricky riddles.

À la carte card game price

The à la carte card game prize has been awarded since 1991 , named after the card game section of the magazine. The award ceremony takes place during the International Game Days in October in Essen.

Scout action

Since 1999, Fairplay has carried out the fair play scout campaign at the international match days in Essen. Here, players can give their first marks for the new games of the year at the fair and hand them in at the Fairplay stand. Fairplay publishes the results of the campaign at the exhibition stand and on the Internet.
