Theater education service

The ensemble and the theater education team of the Theaterwerkstatt Heidelberg have been doing preventive theater in schools, youth centers and other socio-cultural institutions such as museums since 1997. This includes project days and project weeks on a wide variety of topics such as violence, addiction or migration. Theater for prevention is a concept that makes use of the resources of Augusto Boal's forum theater , playback theater , theater now, biographical theater, psychodrama and others. In addition, professional acting methods based on Konstantin Sergejewitsch Stanislawski , Michael Chekhov , Jerzy Grotowski , Wsewolod Emiljewitsch Meyerhold , Lee Strasberg and Peter Brook are used. In addition, recourse is made to Bertolt Brecht's Lehrstücktheater as well as to the methods of movement theater (e.g. after Rudolf von Laban ) and physical theater. The prevention theater should give the opportunity to involve the entire body. A holistic approach is sought to make the invisible visible. The Theater Education Service carries out a wide variety of projects in schools to bring theater closer to students and teachers. In addition to the artistic and aesthetic goals, the theater work should help to increase self-confidence, social skills, communication skills and empathy.
