Simon Wigg (born October 15, 1960 in Aylesbury , England , † November 15, 2000 ) was a British track athlete . He was successful in the speedway as well as on long and grass tracks . His greatest individual success in the speedway was second place at the 1989 World Championships in Munich behind Hans Nielsen . In 1989 he was also the captain of the British national speedway team, which won the world title that year .

However, he was even more successful on longer tracks than in the speedway. He won the world championship title five times .

In 2000 he died of complications from a brain tumor. Numerous prominent track athletes, such as B. Sam Ermolenko , Gerd Riss and Kelvin Tatum came to his funeral.
