history

The faculty has existed since August 1901, and teaching has been active since February 1902. In the beginning the faculty was called "Escuela Superior de Industrias de Tarrassa" (Terrassa Industrial College) where the following subjects were taught: engineering, applied engineering and basic training for workers. Originally the faculty was created to meet the needs of the Terrassa-based textile industry. This branch of industry reached its peak of development in the 19th century with the invention of the steam engine. Initially, the faculty was located in Topete Straße 4, but in 1904 it moved to Colom Straße 1, where it is still located today. The faculty building dates from the "Modernisme Catala" era. An exhibition was the highlight of the applied arts that year. In 1943, the building became the property of the government and retained its teaching function.

The teaching in the field of textile engineering, which has been offered since 1906, has always been characteristic of the "Terrassa Faculty of Engineering" and has been expanded over time to include additional diplomas. Other fields of engineering were also taught: chemistry, mechanics, electrical engineering and electronics.

View of the main entrance

In 1962, engineering was separated from higher education and teaching began at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales (Technical College of Industrial Engineering) at 1. Colom Street. Since 1972 the faculty has been part of the Universitat Politècnica de Barcelona, which later became the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC).

A building from the Modernisme Català era

The building of the faculty is one of the first works by Lluís Muncunill and shows the influence of a historical style. The isolated two-story building with a ground floor encloses an inner courtyard in a U-shape. The main hall, which provides direct access to the classrooms, the library and other rooms are supported by steel columns. There is also a portrait of the founder of the Faculty, Alfonso Salonsa. Noteworthy on the main facade are steps leading to the main entrance and for both side sections.

location

The EET on the Terrassa campus consists of TR1 (main building), TR2 (rear building) and TR3 (side building), the main entrance to TR1 is at Colom Straße 1. The campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya is located in the center of Terrassa. It has good connections to the city of Barcelona and its outskirts (regional trains RENFE , FGC and the urban bus network). Both pre-diploma courses, postgraduate courses (Masters) and doctoral programs are offered on campus.
