The Falken-Verlag was an independent guide publisher and is now an imprint for self-help books for men in the area of fitness and cooking of Verlagsgruppe Random House , owned by the Bertelsmann AG and as the holding company for all Bertelsmann publishing functions.

history

The publishing house was founded in 1923 as the fiction "Falken-Verlag Friedrich Wilhelm Bruchhaus" in Dresden-Blasewitz , but sold in 1933 to the authorized signatory of a travel and mail order bookshop for health books and professional guides, whose son was the later publisher Frank Sicker .

The first book title that appeared in the new Ratgeberverlag in 1934 was the title Healthy Mothers, Beautiful Children . In 1936 the Falken-Verlag hit the headlines with the title Gesundes Liebesleben , which became a bestseller at the time with 250,000 copies.

In 1963, the trained bookseller and business economist Frank Sicker took over the management of the publishing house and brought him to the top of the advisory and non-fiction book publishers in Germany with only around 125 employees. In 1991 Falken-Verlag was one of the 15 largest public publishers in the Federal Republic of Germany, with sales of 74 million marks . Originally based in Berlin, later housed in a villa in Wiesbaden-Sonnenberg, the publishing house had been based in Niedernhausen im Taunus since 1977 . In 1973 the publisher Frank Sicker bought Bassermann Verlag and moved it to Niedernhausen. The books from Bassermann Verlag were incorporated into the Falken Verlag program. In 1988 Frank Sicker reanimated Bassermann under the name Bassermann Verlag and gave him a new program, some of which included inexpensive special editions from the falcon program.

The Falken publishing program included over 1000 titles available for delivery. It covered the whole range of advisory topics, since 1985 videos and computer programs have also been part of the publisher's offer.

At the end of the 20th century, Falken-Verlag was taken over by Bertelsmann AG . Falken Verlag (Imprint) and Bassermann Verlag, which has been based in Munich since 2002, later became part of the Random House publishing group.
