Digão (born October 14, 1985 in Brasília ; real name Rodrigo Izecson dos Santos Leite ) is a Brazilian soccer player . Digão plays in defense and was most recently under contract with the New York Red Bulls .
Career
Digão began his career at São Paulo FC , where his older brother, Kaká , also learned to play football. In summer 2004 he moved to AC Milan for 500,000 euros , where he played in the youth team for the first year and where he was loaned to Rimini Calcio after a year . In the summer of 2007 he returned to Milan, but he could not assert himself in the team with many top players and only played one game.
Therefore, Digão moved to Liège on loan in the summer of 2008, where he hoped for more match practice, which he could not get due to a torn cruciate ligament . In the following seasons he was awarded to US Lecce , FC Crotone and FC Penafiel , but where he could not prevail. After his return in the summer of 2011, his contract with AC Milan expired.
After almost a year without a club, Digão was signed by the US first division club New York Red Bulls in September 2012 . Digão made his debut on November 9, 2012 when he came on as a substitute in the 89th minute of the game against DC United . On July 19, 2013, he terminated his contract.
Trivia
Since Digão couldn't pronounce his brother's first name correctly as a small child, he called him Kaká . His brother still bears this name as a stage name.
