Falkon (formerly QupZilla) is a free web browser that is based on QtWebEngine from version 2.0.0 and is licensed under the GPL .

Features

You can take screenshots of the entire page and use the Opera- like “Speed Dial” homepage. Falkon enables seamless integration into the desktop environment by using the icons and styles of the current desktop theme. Falkon also contains an ad blocker by default. There is also a native, portable version for Windows that is offered on the website.

history

The project was started in 2010 as part of a research project. The first preliminary version, written in Python (with the PyQt library), was ready in December 2010. In 2011, the source code was rewritten in C ++ in order to get a portable web browser with seamless integration of look and feel under Windows and Unix desktop environments.

At the beginning of August 2017, it was decided to rename QupZilla to Falkon. At the same time, they moved under the KDE umbrella .
