Fall gasoline system

As benzine system , also benzine , a technical solution is in the vehicle referred to in which the in a combustion engine used fuel by gravity from the fuel tank to the carburetor passes. In the fuel line between the tank and the carburetor, there is usually an additional device for interrupting the fuel flow, which is referred to as a fuel tap in the manual version . Such an interruption is necessary in order to prevent the carburetor from overflowing after the engine has been switched off and thus fuel escaping into thePrevent environment .

In the case of a fall gasoline system, the tank is located above the carburettor, the connecting fuel line is laid almost vertically and designed so that a free flow is possible. With such an arrangement, no fuel pump is necessary. This simplifies the construction and reduces the susceptibility to errors. Disadvantages are the limitations in the arrangement of the fuel tank resulting from this construction and the limited possibilities for regulating the amount of fuel that reaches the carburetor.

For the reasons mentioned, a fall gasoline system is mainly used in simple engine designs, for example in older motor vehicles and smaller motorcycles . In contrast, such a solution is no longer used in modern motor vehicles. Due to the arrangement shown, the tank of motor vehicles was in the engine compartment, which on the one hand required opening the bonnet for refueling and on the other hand increased the risk of the fuel igniting in rear-end collisions in vehicles with a front engine .
