Fall bed

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
By using the "felling" blasting technique, the chimney tilts into the fall bed after the blast.

The term fall bed is used in blasting technology and describes an artificially dug pit that receives the structure that was tipped over by the blast .

features

The fall bed is used when the blasting technique is chosen so that the structure leaves its stable position by tilting to the side and falls to the ground. The fall bed picks up the falling structure and prevents parts from flying around in an uncontrolled manner. The explosive charge is to be installed in such a way that a wedge is removed from the load-bearing system, similar to cutting down a tree , creating a one-sided unstable situation. The prerequisite for this is careful preparation and execution of the blasting work. A drop bed can only be dug if there is sufficient space. In the case of cramped conditions (e.g. dense inner city development), an alternative blasting technique should be selected.
