Catch tree

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trapping trees are used to attract forest pests .

The attracted species are those that prefer to lay their eggs in or on ailing or freshly dead trees. These include, for example, bark beetles , longhorn beetles and pine weevils . The beetles gather at the breeding material provided and can be caught or killed there. This is supported by the habit of many beetle species to send out pheromones when colonizing fresh brood material . This leads to the increased attraction of further beetles.

Trunks thrown by the storm or freshly felled serve as catching trees. In exceptional cases, standing trunks are also used, which were previously weakened by curling . Similar to the catch tree methods are methods with catching stick (Fangkloben, Fang beating) or catch bark , in which only parts of the tree are used to attract.
