Fantage is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). H. Massively multiplayer online role-playing game, set in a persistent virtual world, and developed by Fantage, Inc. Players can design their characters or avatars according to their taste and thus scour and explore the virtual world. Fantage was first presented to the world in April 2008 and has since developed into a broad online community that in September 2011 had 14 million registered users. The game was designed for the age group from 6 to 16 years. The safety of the young users is a main concern of the founders and it is guaranteed by a three-stage filter system: professional monitoring of the chats, automatic word filtering system, the possibility to report users and for parents to choose between different chat modes.

History and Development

Virtual world

The preparatory work and plans for Fantage began in 2006, took a year and development took another 12 months until the first users visited the virtual world. The project was led by current director David Hwang, Peter J. Bae, co-founder and current vice president, and Cindy Hwang, product manager of Fantage, Inc. Its headquarters were initially in Palisades Park, New Jersey, but the rapidly growing company soon moved to new offices in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

Mobile game development

Fantage has recently developed mobile games such as Fantage Bullseye, Fantage IDFone and Fantage FishFish for the iPhone . To date, Fantage Bullseye has been downloaded more than 200,000 times from the iTunes App Store since launch .

Business model

Fantage started as a self-funded start-up and received a capital injection during the development phase from the Korean online game company Nexon Corporation . Registration is free and users can easily play all games for free. Premium membership grants access to all items, especially clothing, rarities, most jewels, personally designed content and most pets. Otherwise, users can buy eCoins, the Fantage currency, and make micro-transactions with them, even without being a member. Almost all items can be bought with eCoins. This excludes the double star vouchers and pet eggs. However, pet charms are available with eCoins that can be used to hatch pets. Items purchased with eCoins remain in the player's possession forever and can be used regardless of the status of membership in the game.

Surroundings

When users log in to "Fantage" and register, they automatically get their first home. You can decide who can visit you at home, either all the players on the server or just your friends, so they can meet friends and hold parties. Premium members can buy new, more luxurious or themed houses and decorate them as they please. The houses of the members are visible on the world map and are therefore easily accessible. "Fantage" currently consists of 14 locations: A city that is divided into Lower and Upper City, Piz Fantage with the eternal snow and the newspaper office, the castle, fair, forest, magic world, the docks, the oasis, the Fantage school, a creature oma, the animal village, and a magic meadow. Scattered over these parts of the world, the user will find 30 games, 14 shops and many other offers. In stores around the world players can buy and trade clothes, hairstyles, pets and much more. The games can be found in every region. Users can also visit the Mission Center and complete seven exciting assignments in the name of Fantage, a type of mission and adventure with tasks to be completed. Relatively new features are fun animated pets that can be adopted and run around the world.

Features and activities

Games

On fantage.de, users can play many mini-games as a single player and recently also as a multiplayer, such as Splasch, Brick Construction, Vegetable SCHLAGer, Schachmatt and KroneMich, a checkers game. These games give users stars. Fantage has also developed a new mobile platform-type game: The Secret Adventure, which takes the player into fairytale worlds, where obstacles have to be overcome, puzzling keys have to be collected and treasure chests have to be unlocked. You can also play special "wild" games with the pets in the animal village, either individually or in groups.

items

Premium members can use their virtual pocket money and the stars they win in games to buy all sorts of goods on Fantage. This does not apply to the items exclusively available with eCoins. But the non-members also have a range of articles available, such as clothes, hairstyles, skin and eye colors, as well as thousands of stickers in the various shops. All users can buy all items with eCoins at any time. eCoins are available at a certain quantity price. Only the double star vouchers and animal eggs cannot be purchased with eCoins. However, pets can be hatched with eCoins purchased magic formulas.

Pets

Users can hatch pets by purchasing eggs or magic formulas. Hatching is reserved exclusively for members. Non-members can hatch two pets from eggs. For non-members, however, there is the possibility of hatching any pet of their choice using a magic formula, which they can buy with eCoins. These magic formulas accelerate the brood so that the pet hatches after an hour, 20 minutes or even immediately. Gifts and free items are sometimes given to players at special events.

Parties and Community

Users can add up to 200 friends to their friends list and talk to them individually via instant messenger or in group chat with several people at the same time. In addition, you can chat with those present anywhere on Fantage at any time, be it through freely typed messages that appear in speech bubbles or through predefined sentences (secure chat). If you have selected the latter as the mode, you can only see messages from other participants who are using the same mode. This function is for the safety of users so that they are not confronted with content that could possibly be disruptive. Premium members can hold celebrations at home and either invite everyone on the server or just their friends. For a few stars, players can buy party themes and piñatas, and gift their guests with stickers.

Learning content

The fun game world of Fantage is also a place where teachers and students can find educational content. Mathematics, language, geography and strategy are practiced in a playful way in the various classrooms of the Fantage School. In the music room, children get to know instruments and can compose light melodies with them; In the gym they play 'Aus der Patsche', an entertaining and educational quiz question game. At the end of each game, participants can print out their final results as a certificate. In a special private class, players can even organize or participate in private lessons; you can invite friends, parents, relatives and teachers to experience real learning success with them in the virtual space. In this private lesson, children can play all the Fantage games and see their class results in real time.
