Color and style advice on people is usually a freelance activity, in which a color analysis is used to determine whether the person being advised belongs to a certain color type or their individual color personality. In addition to the private sector, customers are primarily drawn from companies with a high number of visitors (banks, department stores, fashion stores).

Basics

The advice is based on a color type theory , in which people are often classified into four main color types based on the color of their skin, which are based on two basic types: warm and cold . This classic symbolic division into four types according to the meteorological seasons has been extended to individual color advice as part of color and style advice since the 1980s.

The individual color advice is based on an overall harmony between face, skin tone, eyes, eyebrows and hair. If clothes, glasses, jewelry and make-up also fit into the corresponding overall color scheme, the person feels better looking and is perceived by the environment accordingly.

In the course of the color analysis, the affiliation to a color type is usually defined by placing monochrome cloths on monochrome, neutral (white) advisory cloaks on the upper body and comparing the skin, hair, eyes and eyebrows with the color. If the color type determined in this way harmonizes with so-called warm colors, attention can also be paid to the use of warm colors (red or yellow) when choosing clothes and make-up. Conversely, if you belong to a cold-toned type, you look better in blue-ground, cool colors.

Knowledge of color and style advice includes E.g. to train the relevant sales staff in some department stores. At the annual trade fair for professional cosmetics, Beauty International , which takes place in Düsseldorf , the service is one of the areas presented.

An example of an application of color and style elements that is deliberately contrary to the mainstream is the Gothic scene .
