Color appearance model
A color appearance model (engl. Color Appearance Model ) tries the appearance of a color under certain viewing and illumination conditions with colorimetric describe methods. An integral part of most color appearance models is a chromatic adaptation model .
The basic approach to a color appearance model is to distinguish between
- absolute color (English unrelated color ) and
- relative color (engl. related color ). In the case of a relative color, the reference to other colors, e.g. B. a reference white is considered.
For example, the color brown is only to be understood as a relative color, since the corresponding absolute color is orange (brown is a dark orange).
Examples of color appearance models are CIECAM97s and its successor CIECAM02 . Even CIELAB can be understood as a color appearance model.
