In physiology

As a chromatic adaptation (Greek-latin color matching ) is referred to in the physiology of the automatic white balance of the eye . This is a special adaptation process that is made possible by equipping the retina with different types of light-sensitive cells .

Due to this ability of the eye, the person subjectively hardly perceives a change in the color temperature of the ambient light. Thus, a white sheet of paper is seen almost as white under both artificial and daylight , different for each person.
