The Faruq Mosque

The Faruq Mosque ( Arabic جامع فاروق, DMG Ǧāmiʿ Fārūq ) is the second largest mosque in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum .

It is located in the business center of Khartoum, at the intersection of al-Gamhouria Street and al-Hurriya Street, around 600 meters northeast of the Great Mosque of Khartoum .

The founding of the mosque is attributed to the Islamic scholar Ahmed bin Ali Aon bin Amer (1600–1691), who is said to have moved from his place of residence on Tuti Island to the mainland south of the Nile . The first settlement of the future city was built on the site of the mosque.

In 1829 the mosque was enlarged by Khurschid Pasha. The present building was rebuilt by King Faruq of Egypt in 1947 and was named after him.
