Fiber Institute Bremen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a scientific institution at the University of Bremen , the Fiber Institute Bremen (FIBER) takes on research and development tasks in the field of testing, further development and processing of fibers , textile semi-finished products and fiber composite materials .

In 1969 the institute was founded as a non-profit organization. The activities of the cotton laboratory, which was expanded at the Bremen Cotton Exchange in 1955, and the activities of the Woll-Labor eV created in 1965, were jointly transferred to the newly founded association in 1969. Then, in 1989, the association cooperated with the University of Bremen. This resulted in the essential content of the cooperation in the areas of teaching and research and the personal union in the institute management and university professorship in Department 12 (Department of Production Technology).

With the appointment of Professor Herrmann as director of the institute and professor for the production engineering department in 2001, the focus on “lightweight construction with fiber composites and fiber development” and the specialization “aerospace engineering in production engineering” were established at the university. The institute's activities are currently bundled into four areas of expertise:

  • Test methods
  • Fiber composite, structure and process development
  • Fiber development
  • Material development and characterization

The institute's test center is accredited for four test methods according to DIN ISO 17025 and can fall back on 50 years of know-how in material testing . It is recognized worldwide through the implementation of round robin tests and offers, among other things, a large number of tests for individual fibers of all materials, up to fiber composite component tests. Upon request, individual test methods and concepts can be developed in cooperation with the “Test Methods” competence field.
