Fauro is a densely forested and rugged island in the western province of the Pacific island state of Solomon Islands .
The approximately 75 km² island is the second largest of the Shortland Islands after Alu . It is only a few kilometers south of the border with the neighboring state of Papua New Guinea . Fauro is of volcanic origin and is fringed by coral reefs ; the highest point is about 480 m high.
Small settlements can be found on the south and east coast of the island, including Toumoa and Kariki.
