Feddan
Feddan (from Arabic فدان, DMG Faddān ) was an Arabic measure of area that was mainly used in Egypt , Syria and Sudan .
- 1 Feddan = 24 Kirat = 4200 square meters = 0.42 hectares
The feddan had two different dimensions. The common feddan had
- generally 1 Feddan = 400 square kasab / square kussabeh = 59,290 aren (French),
the one for the tax calculation only
- For tax purposes 1 Feddan = 333 Kas square Kasab = 44,591 ares (French).
- The Kasab was reckoned with 6 ⅓ pik beledi.
Various feddan:
There was Feddani rumani (Romance), Feddani islami (Islamic) and Feddani hirass (Ackerfeddan).
- Feddani rumani was the arable land that was worked with (two) oxen in one day (24 hours).
- Feddani islami was the arable land that was worked with (two) oxen in a twelve-hour day.
- Feddani hirass was the arable land that (two) oxen worked from morning to noon. Another name is Feddani Ers or Erdfeddan.
