Federal Correctional Institution Miami

The Federal Correctional Institution, Miami ( FCI Miami ) is a US federal prison in Miami-Dade County , Florida . It was commissioned in 1976 and operates on a low security level. It only houses male prisoners. In 2002 it had 320 employees and 1,205 prisoners.

The prison is located in southwest Miami-Dade County, 30 miles from downtown Miami . It is mostly used to hold prisoners on remand before the US District Court of Southern Florida .

  • Bernard NiCastro, soldato of the DeCavalcante family from New Jersey.
  • Manuel Noriega , the former Panamanian head of government, was held there until 2007 when he was extradited to France.
