The light railway Terkos-Karaburun ( Turkish: Terkos-Karaburun dekovil Hatti ) was a 7 km long narrow gauge railway from Terkos (now Durusu) to Karaburun in Istanbul , with the by sea via the Black Sea delivered coal to the driven by steam engines pumping station in Terkos was transported.

history

The pumping station on Lake Terkos (Durusu Lake) was put into operation between 1883 and 1885 for the drinking water supply of Istanbul.

Similar twin locomotives were used on the railway line as on the nearby Haliç – Karadeniz field railway , but the tracks of the two railways were not connected. A single steam locomotive (a so-called Illing ) was in operation until at least 1953.

The regular operation of the steam pumps was discontinued due to the electrification in 1967, but they were operational in the event of a power failure until 1975.

The tracks of the light railroad were dismantled and scrapped after the closure. However, the municipality of Arnavutköy is trying to determine the route of the former railway line, which in places lies under the reservoir.
