The field railways at Komen were military railways at the settlement of Komen near Štanjel in the municipality of Komen , in today's Slovenia .

history

On the occasion of the Isonzo battles of the First World War, the Austro-Hungarian army built several field railways in the Karst region of Komen to supply the front, for the logistical transport of supplies between the stations of Štanjel and Dutovlje and to the warehouses in the Karst hinterland. From Dutovlje to Kostanjevica na Krasu there was a standard-gauge railway with the main station in Komen, which was used to supply all units up to the front line. Unusual road -rail vehicles were used on it, which the towing vehicles equipped with a steerable front axle and petrol-electric drive could in principle also be moved without rails.
