Rim roll

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rim roll is an element in apparatus gymnastics that is related to the backward roll in the handstand . In contrast to the roll, the arms are stretched backwards into the handstand with the rim roll.

Rim rolls are shown on the ground . High-performance gymnasts use the rim roll as a preliminary exercise for the free rim on the uneven bars or on the horizontal bar .

Movement sequence

The rim roll is exercised from a standing position. Ideally, the gymnast lowers himself without putting his hands on. Arms and legs are stretched. The gymnast rolls back over the straight seat and places his hands as far away from his head as possible. The leg-trunk angle opens explosively. The legs block just before the body is extended. At the same time, the arm-trunk angle is opened completely. The handstand is reached as the end position.

The body must not be overstretched while the wheel is rolling. Blocking the hip extension before hyperextension is an important part of the rim movement.

If the arms are bent, the element is not recognized as a roll in the rim, but as a backward roll into the handstand.
