The NSS Felinto Perry (K-11) is a special ship of the Brazilian Navy (Marinha do Brasil) . It is equipped for rescuing submersibles and divers.

history

The ship was built in 1979 in Smedvik Mekaniske Verksted, Tjørvåg for K / S Wilhelmsen Marine Services A / S, Norway. The construction costs at that time amounted to 62,900,000 Norwegian kroner . The ship was christened Wildrake .

Shortly after its commissioning, it was involved in a serious accident in August 1979. Two professional divers died in the East Shetland Basin , one of the main areas of North Sea oil production , located between Scotland and Norway . The rope connection of the diving bell was separated from the lifting system of the MS Wildrake at a depth of 160 meters . The 32-year-old diver Richard Arthur Walker and the 28-year-old diver Victor Francis "Skip" Guiel Jr. died of hypothermia as a result . The accident led to extensive investigations and new standards in the diving industry.

Later the ship was in service as Holger Dane . The researcher Henning H. Fadderbøll went on diving missions in the English Channel. Fadderbøll found the hull of the English ship Medina , in which there were numerous works of art.

In 1988 the ship was sold to the Brazilian Navy by the Norwegian A / S Sentinel Offshore. This converted the ship into a submarine rescue ship. In honor of the first commander of the Brazilian submarine force, Admiral Felinto Perry, the ship was christened in his name.

Brazil sent the NSS Felinto Perry as a contribution to the search for the Argentine submarine ARA San Juan (S42), which has been missing since November 15, 2017 .
