Fellen is a district of Sankt Goar on the left bank of the Middle Rhine . It is part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site .

geography

The district also includes most of the Ehrenthaler Werth island on the Rhine , with the exception of the westernmost branch.

history

The history of Fellens is directly linked to the history of the lead-zinc ore mine Gute Hope . In 1872, a casino called "Recreation" was built near the pit for the officials of the pit. This was the first house in furs. In 1906 a house with a smithy was built, which today serves as a singing home.

In 1937/38 the Reichsheimstättenamt built a factory housing estate with 16 houses to accommodate the workers and employees of the mine .

In 1938 the Fellen settlement, which had previously belonged to the then still independent Werlau , was added to the city of St. Goar.

Due to the lack of building land in the city of St. Goar, Fellen grew rapidly after the war, in particular people displaced from the Sudetenland settled here.

politics

Fellen is part of the St. Goar district .

societies

On April 18, 1953, the "Frohsinn Men's Choir" was founded, from which a mixed choir later emerged, which is now dormant. There is also the “Citizens' Initiative St. Goar - Fellen e. V. “, which is committed to promoting young people and for social purposes.

traffic

The district of Fellen is connected by a bridge over the railway line to federal highway 9 , which runs through the Rhine Valley on the left bank of the Rhine. The next train stop is in the heart of St. Goar.
