Rock mill
old millstone

The rock mill in Gütighofen in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district was one of the last private watermills along the Möhlin .

The building is a holdover from the High Gothic and was first mentioned in 1341. It has been in constant possession of the Knöbel family since 1802. The archives of the Karlsruhe General State Archives contain the first description of the situation from the 14th century and the records of Michael Müller's delivery from 1546 for his “Garbage to Gittighofen von Wasserfahl”. In 1746 the mill owner was first called "Felsenmüller".

The mill wheel turned until 1972. The last master miller, Willi Knöbel, had to give up his business for economic reasons and because the waterfall at the 5.20 meter high mill wheel had undermined the foundation. The mill section of the former three-sided farmstead was converted into a residential building within three years. The rear part of the building, which previously served as an apartment, was preserved. In 1986 the roof structure of the former mill was also removed. In 2001 the barn, which was in danger of collapsing, was converted into a residential building.
