Rock inscription from Nascht-e ban

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The rock inscription of Nascht-e ban (Našteban) is carved in the soft rock of Sabalan near the village of Girkh-ghizlar in eastern Azerbaijan , 20 km (36 km to Salvini) northeast of Sarab . It was discovered by Najaf Ali Zendedel from the Tabriz granary, who made a copy and sent it to Dr. Mahiyar Navabi, Dean of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Tabriz .

The incomplete inscription consists of twelve lines. However, the beginning of the traditional cursing of the one who erases it or ascribes it to himself has been preserved (line 13), indicating that the "historical" part is complete. The inscription comes from the Urartian king Argišti Rusahini . Benedict assumes that it was placed in the course of the same campaign as the rock inscription from Mount Zagaln .

Argišti reports how he took the lands of Bu- […] and […] -du-ši-li and reached the river Muna, where he turned back. He subjugated the lands of Girdu, Gituḫani and Tunišpa and conquered a city whose name is not fully preserved (e-ú- […] -tar-ni). He took the tribute of the conquered lands.

Without a name formula, the curse formula follows directly.
