Feminist Studies ( proper spelling : feminist studies ) is the title of a peer-reviewed journal for interdisciplinary women and gender studies in German-speaking countries.

organization

The first issue was published in 1982. As of issue no.1 from 2019, volunteer members of the group of editors are: Sabine Hark (Berlin), Friederike Kuster (Wuppertal), Katharina Liebsch (Hamburg), Aline Oloff (Berlin), Regine Othmer ( Hanover), Birgitt Riegraf (Paderborn), Tanja Thomas (Tübingen). From this group, people take on the editing and editing of the respective issue.

From the outset, the editorial team's working method has been organized on a grassroots basis and is based on a peer review process: incoming manuscripts are anonymized, read by everyone and accepted or rejected by majority vote. The Förderverein Feministische Studien eV was founded in 1988 and is based in Hanover . The journal was included in the international Science Citation Index in July 2008 and is also listed in the European Reference Index for the Humanities.

The print edition of Feminist Studies appears twice a year, in May and November. From 1982 to 1986 the magazine was published by Beltz-Verlag , Weinheim. After the termination by Beltz-Verlag and a one-year break, it was published from 1988 to 2001 by Deutsches Studien Verlag, Weinheim. Since 2002 the magazine has been published by Lucius & Lucius , Stuttgart. After the takeover of Lucius & Lucius by the publishing group de Gruyter , Feminist Studies was published by the publishing house de Gruyter.

In addition to the magazine, Feminist Studies has been running a blog since November 2014. Feminist debates on current social and scientific issues are published there.

task

In 1982 the first issue of the journal said: The task of the journal is to pick up on scientific trends that may be relevant for women's studies, to provide information on the status of women's studies in other countries and, in particular, to present forms of non-institutionalized women's studies and have their say allow. Its aim is to deepen and disseminate knowledge from and about women in history, culture and society.

For more than 30 years, feminist studies have been critically examining social changes, taking part in debates in research and the public and providing impetus in current controversies.

One claim is to provide suggestions for new perspectives, but also impetus for a changed practice: special issues, for example, on the subject of "Economy beyond growth - feminist perspectives on the (post) growth society" (Issue 2/2017) and "Normalization of neo-reactionary politics "(Issue 2/2018) take up currently explosive topics and social issues and go, for example under the titles" More Feminist and Critical Theory "(Issue 1/2018)" and "Reproductive Technologies, Generativity, Kinship" (Issue 1/2019 ) to new ways of thinking and practices.
