Ferchar II.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ferchar II. (Also Ferchar Fota - German: Ferchar der Lange, Ferchar Mac Feradaig - son of Feradach) (* around 628 (?); † 697 ) was king of the Loarn clan in the years 695–697 , the descendants of Loarn mac Eirc , who settled around the Firth of Lorn , later perhaps the whole Irish-Scottish Empire of Dalriada . He was first mentioned as a general in the annals of Tigernach in 678.

Life

Ferchar II succeeded Domnall from the family of Fergus Mór mac Erc and ruled for two years. During his reign the empire was shaken by disputes over the throne and was threatened by the Picts .

His successor was Eochaid II for a short time . In the same year 697 he was followed by Ferchars, Ainbcellach or Aircellach . After two grandchildren of Ferchar, the family Fergus took over the succession to the throne.
