Ferdinand Grandits

Ferdinand Grandits (born February 18, 1932 in Stinatz ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1977 to 1991 he was a member of the Burgenland State Parliament and from 1982 the 3rd President of the State Parliament.

Life

Grandits was born as the son of the construction worker Valentin Grandits from Stinatz and grew up speaking Burgenland-Croatian as his mother tongue. He attended elementary school in Stinatz and was subsequently employed as a construction worker. In 1958 he moved to the Oberwart District Construction Office as a game leader.

politics

Grandits began his political career in 1955 when he joined the SPÖ and in 1960 took over the role of local chairman of the SPÖ-Stinatz. In 1967 he was elected to the local council, and in the same year he took over the position of vice mayor. Between 1970 and 1987 he was mayor of Stinatz. Within the party, Grandits also held the office of SPÖ district chairman from 1979 to 1992. He represented the SPÖ between October 27, 1977 and July 18, 1991 in the state parliament and was its 3rd president from October 29, 1987 until he left the state parliament. In 1993 Grandits was convicted of false testimony in the follow-up trial of the so-called "Causa Sinowatz".
