Fergus, 4th Earl of Buchan (* before 1170; † after 1178, before 1211), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

Due to the lack of documents it cannot be proven whether he was the biological son of his predecessor Roger or whether he was awarded the title for other merits or a right from a different descent.

Few details are known about his life: on the founding deed of the hospital “St. Peter “in Aberdeen he appeared as a witness to the signature of the benefactor, Bishop Matthew of Aberdeen; the document is dated between 1178 and 1199. He bequeathed an annual payment of "one mark in silver" to the monks of Aberbrothock Abbey ; this donation was confirmed by King Wilhelm the Lion . This document in turn was certified by Hugh de Roxburgh († 1199), Bishop of Glasgow and at the same time Lord Chancellor of Scotland .

He had at least one legitimate child, Marjory , who had inherited his title of Countess of Buchan no later than 1211.
