The Scots Peerage , also The Scots peerage - a history of the noble families of Scotland , is a series ofbooks editedby James Balfour Paul (1846–1931)from 1904 to 1914and published in Edinburgh by David Douglas. The full series title is “ The Scots Peerage, founded on Wood's edition of Sir Robert Douglas's Peerage of Scotland, containing an historical and genealogical account of the nobility of that kingdom ” (German: “The Scots Peerage, founded on Woods Edition by Sir Robert Douglas ' Peerage of Scotland , containing a historical and genealogical record of the nobility of this kingdom').

The content template for the series is the work The peerage of Scotland by Sir Robert Douglas of Glenbervie (1694-1770), written from 1764 to 1768 , which was initially published in 1798 under the title Baronage of Scotland, Containing an Historical and Genealogical Account of the Gentry of that Kingdom appeared. This contains historical and genealogical information on nobles from the Scottish Kingdom. In 1813 a second edition was revised and corrected by John Philip Wood. This information is the basis for The Scots Peerage . The book series begins with the Scottish queens and kings and reflects the history of the Scottish nobility. It includes both extinct and continuing titles. The entries for the noble houses are provided with numerous coats of arms and other heraldic symbols.
