Feria Nacional de San Marcos

The Feria Nacional de San Marcos is the largest and most famous folk festival in Mexico , which is held in the city of Aguascalientes in April .

The festival lasts four weeks and is celebrated around April 25th, the feast day of St. Mark (see also St. Mark's Day ). The festival was first held in 1828 as a cattle and grain market and in 1958, President Adolfo López Mateos raised it to the rank of a feria nacional . In the state of Aguascalientes , there is an official holiday during the festivities. In addition to Mexican folklore, bullfighting and cockfighting are particularly popular.
