Ferit Edgü

Ferit Edgü (born February 24, 1936 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish contemporary writer .

Edgü studied painting; from 1958 to 1964 he lived in Paris . He returned to Turkey to do military service. His one year experience as a teacher in a village in the province of Hakkâri went into his second novel 0 (1977), with which he also became internationally known. Back in Istanbul, Edgü was head of an advertising company, gallery and publishing house.

Edgü has been publishing poems, stories, novels, reviews and essays in avant-garde magazines since 1952. His novel O / Hakkari'de Bir Mevsim (1977; Ger. 1987 as Ein Winter in Hakkari at the Unionsverlag ) was filmed by Erden Kıral in 1983 under the title One Season in Hakkari . Edgü also wrote the screenplay for the 1988 film Jagdzeit .
